I’ve been lax for while now - getting over a bout of Pneumonia and a huge workload. Prior to the pneumonia, I had been enjoying daily use of the treadmill and three days a week of Brazilian Ju Jitsu.
My goal with this has not - up until now - been to achieve a certain amount of exercise - but to get endurance and my breathing back to a capacity that will allow me to wrestle for a full five minutes without stopping.
Thats no little feat considering what I’ve come back from. Now I think its time to set more goals, and get serious about it.
i am training with the nike plus - doing a walk to run program. I am not sure how to pull those records in - they are visible at my nike profile.
Scott and I cycled for a good hour. Awesome day, but it was a little bit cold….

I took some time off between workouts. I had developed neuropathy in October, but didn’t realize that until about December 19th. Lack of sensation in my hands and feet stopped me from working out and feeling like myself.
Things are improving and I am feeling much better. I bought a bike this weekend, and my husband and I are starting to cycle together. Today, we rode about 4.5 miles. He used to cycle all the time, and I used to ride off-road. So this is a new experience for me - I have a comfort bike with 21 speeds. Very cool. I can see what people love about cycling and I look forward to doing more of it…
i made it in for a swim on tuesday. the sun was just coming up, it was playing on the surface of the water. I was unable to to the full mile, but i did increase my number of laps a little more. i got a little more than a quarter mile. i did enjoy the sauna, the dry heat was nice, and cut down on the soreness.

I finally made it back to the y today for a swim. i was unable to do as much as before, but hope to build back endurance and lung capacity. as long as i am moving forward, and making progress, i feel good. i think that I will add a layer to the morning workouts, and do a full strength training session first, tomorrow, followed by a steam, followed by a swim, and then a nice session in the sauna. I couldn’t deal with the sauna or steam room today, i was still coughing too much. but i am confident that tomorrow will the be right time.
starting to add some strength training is the next logical step, I am very excited….

I swam this morning despite yesterday’s Wednesdays hellish migraine attack. I was afraid to swim on Thursday morning, considering the fact that I could feel my heartbeat behind my neck and I couldn’t see very well.
Wednesday I developed a migraine after accidentally eating food that had casein in it (allergic) and it beat the heck out of me all day. I didn’t stop working, and I didn’t stop thinking about work, until I was able to fall asleep. Thursday the alarm went off at 5:30 but I couldn’t overcome the pain enough to stand up for a long time. I wanted to swim so badly. But I promised myself that I wouldn’t stop swimming, so this morning I got up and got moving even though I took one day off.

Swimming is really healing me in ways I needed. I feel so much better. I spoke to my doctor about weight loss, and he suggested for me a 1000 calorie diet. I should be able to drop 18 pounds in about 1 month on this plan, which will probably accelerate if I add strength training to the mix. Right now, I am just focused on the swimming and cardio, and not letting stress get me. I am checking my heart rate at intervals during the day, and at the worst it’s about 120 when I get upset. So the second thing I need to work on is calming down and relaxing.
