Getting better every day…

Swimming is really healing me in ways I needed. I feel so much better. I spoke to my doctor about weight loss, and he suggested for me a 1000 calorie diet. I should be able to drop 18 pounds in about 1 month on this plan, which will probably accelerate if I add strength training to the mix. Right now, I am just focused on the swimming and cardio, and not letting stress get me. I am checking my heart rate at intervals during the day, and at the worst it’s about 120 when I get upset. So the second thing I need to work on is calming down and relaxing.

Workout:

  • Type: Swim
  • Date: 01/30/2008
  • Time: 07:30:00
  • Total Time: 00:15:00.00
  • Distance: 880 yd
  • Average Pace: 1:42.27/100yd

Aeon, I’m so happy you’re having a great time swimming. I love being in the water, I have since I was a kid. When you can connect with the water, there is this almost magical feeling. I think that it most be a sort of primal sensation.

I’m surprised to hear your doctor suggest a 1,000 calorie diet. Of course, your doctor knows your specific medical situation better than anyone, but wow that seems low. I hope your doctor also gave you some great advice on how to make sure those calories were well balanced with a healthy mix of all the right macro nutrients.

I’m so glad you joined Sweat365. I hope you’re finding support and inspiration. Keep writing, I am rooting for you and all your health and fitness goals!

Wow! 1,000 calories?! That does seem like a metabolism killer, but under a doctor’s supervision I’ll assume it must be the right thing for you.

Stress definitely does a number on your health. I’m finding that being more consistent with exercise goes a long way toward dealing with my stress, and gives me more energy for everything I need to do.

Good luck getting control of your stress, and achieving your weight and fitness goals.

I’m shocked at the 1000 cal diet, but like others above, I defer to the doctor. I hope it’s a balanced diet as well. I doubt I’d make it through too many 1000 cal days!

Aeon, you know I’ve told you this before… a 1,000 calories is really low for you. I’m really surprised that your doctor suggested that. I would look into being referred to a nutritionist, because I don’t believe that your dr. is telling you the right information. That is borderline anorexic calorie levels paired with exercising - it is not healthy. This could also slow your metabolism greatly and get you into the trap of yo-yo dieting, where you eat little, lose, then eat normal, and gain more. You want to be able to eat normal for life right?

I know you, so I know I can just say what I feel and you’ll appreciate my honesty. I want you to be healthy and happy more than anything, so I’m not saying this to make you feel worse about this option.

I would also like to point out that the faster you lose the weight, the faster it’ll return next month when you go back to eating again. So, please, I wouldn’t dip so low in calories and I would concentrate on exercise time to burn calories while trying to just eat more veggies and fruits and avoid junk.

Swimming is an awesome overall body workout and you’ll lose weight just starting out. Take care of yourself, don’t get too crazy about weight, but pay attention to HOW you feel. You feel great it seems so far, just from beginning a swimming regimen. Best of luck love! :) I’m here for you!
